The First Thing People Notice
Brady is the Editorial Director at Spotlight Media in Fargo, ND.
Nobody walks into a business thinking about the parking lot.
But they notice it. They notice the cracks. The faded lines. The puddles they step around on the way to the door.
“That’s the first thing people see,” Tyler Anderson, founder of Advanced Striping, said. “You can usually tell—if the outside looks taken care of, the inside probably is too.”
Advanced Striping doesn’t focus on building parking lots. They focus on saving them.
While large asphalt companies often prioritize new construction and municipal jobs, Advanced built it business on maintenance services like crack filling, sealcoating, striping, and targeted repairs that extend the life of existing asphalt.
“A lot of companies come in and install brand-new lots,” Tyler said. “Our focus is on what happens after that. How do you protect it? How do you make it last?”
Because without that maintenance, asphalt doesn’t age gracefully. Water seeps in. Cracks spread. Small issues turn into structural failures. And eventually, what could have been a few thousand dollars in upkeep becomes a full tear-out and replacement, often costing 2 to 3 times the price of a mill and overlay.
“The goal is to save people money before it turns into a major repair,” he said.
The goal is to save people money before it turns into a huge repair.”

There’s another reason Advanced has carved out its niche. They take on the jobs others won’t. They take on smaller repairs and partial fixes.
Today, Advanced works with thousands of customers, including business owners, property managers, and organizations across the region. Many of whom they’ve worked with for over a decade.
Ask Tyler why customers keep coming back, and he doesn’t talk about equipment or materials first.
He talks about communication.
“Our biggest thing is staying in touch,” he said. “If something changes, we’ll call. If there’s a delay, we’ll let you know. We don’t just disappear.”
And once a project is scheduled, the same level of communication continues.
We just want people to know what’s going on,” Tyler said. “That’s it.”
There’s another differentiator, and it’s not what most people expect. Sometimes, Advanced talks customers out of work.
“If it’s too far gone, we’ll tell them,” Tyler said. “Sealcoating won’t help at that point. It would just be wasting money.”
Instead, they often recommend bigger asphalt companies to reconstruct the lot instead of having Advanced patch it up. Its whatever is best for the customer.
“I look at it like it’s my own parking lot,” he said. “What would I do if I owned this?”
